ResidualIncomeZone.com is back up

Last week I came home from a 2-week vacation. It was great and I realized yet again the benefit of having an online business that runs somewhat on autopilot - I kept getting paid from my AdSense pages, I sold a few digital products, etc. even though I didn't "touch" my business at all these 2 weeks.

But... I also discovered what can happen if you're not monitoring what's happening with your business. One of my domains expired while I was away and the site went down. I thought they had my credit card information but the domain didn't automatically renew.

So, ResidualIncomeZone.com has been down for about 16 days. But it is back up again now and you can go check out some great Online Residual Income Opportunities.

Next time I go on vacation I'll check to see if any of my domains are about to expire and verify that the domain registrar has my credit card information and it will automatically renew - or just manually renew it before I leave.

First you will need to figure out what your strong suits are and fields of interest. Many of the more inexpensive businesses can be done online where it is just a matter of a small investment in hosting and domain. Other businesses that are offering services and/or products can cost you more to start with. You will have to find the right balance on what you can provide and what people need. What works is good content. This will make the viewer linger and become more interested in what you have.

There are tons of ways to accomplish this and you will to use and decide what works for you. Pick a few tools of the trade use them and apply them to your site and monitor the response and traffic. If you notice that some are not producing remove them and try something else. You will have to be diligent but remember that simple is better. You don’t want to implement every tool at once it can make your viewers feel uncomfortable so use a few and ditch the rest. Here are just a few possibilities.

1. E-mail lists are great to allow customers to talk about your products and services. Yahoo groups offer this service free. Members can post comments and questions to you or each other and an e-mail is generated to all users. The group can be private, subject to approval, or public. You will want to see daily traffic and post frequently in the beginning to get things going. Eventually your customers will start talking to each other. These lists are a great tool and keep people active and coming back.

2. Polls for viewers to vote on a specific issue related to the site’s content. You want to keep people interactive so they don’t bored. Writing a poll from scratch can be tricky but they make great templates today that can be of great help. You would fill in the blanks and then copy and paste the code to your site.

3. Weblogs or blogs are like an online journal that is frequently updated. You will add some good links into it help up your business of course. It is also a form of communication that allows people to stay updated on what is going on with your business and what they can expect in the future. Today blogs have taken on a life of their own and are sweeping through cyber land.

4. Automation is the key to running your business and growing it at the same time. Automating necessary tasks can get these thing accomplished with you having to lift a finger. This gives you more time to focus on growth and increasing traffic and sales. It is the key to success for online business owners.

Google now puts ad block enhancers on your AdSense units

Experienced AdSense publishers know that putting relevant images close to your AdSense ad units can increase the click through rate.

Many webmasters have been adding these kind of "ad block enhancers" to their templates. But now it looks like Google is going to do it for you. Well, they're testing it out on a few sites.

I first noticed this on one of my websites. It was on a 728x90 ad unit and it was set to display both text and image. I'm pretty sure it's important that you choose to also display images if you want Google to add these ad block enhancers. This is what it looked like:

This is a pretty small file (1.3 KB) which is good - doesn't slow down the loading of your page that much and they resize that image to fit the ad format. The ads on the AdSense unit were business related and that image was also business related - showing some graph.

The image is clickable but I didn't click it because I don't want Google to delete my account ;)

But I did see the same thing on another website (that isn't mine). This time it was on a 120x600 tower ad and the setting again was google_ad_type = "text_image";

It looked like this:

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/verticals/110/88294256.jpg. The ads there were health related and that image is health related - so it looks like they have a database of images for different catagories and try to match them to the ads.

I clicked on that one and then I went on a page similar to the one you get when you click on AdSense Link Units where I saw 10 ads. But I thought it was strange that some of the ads didn't have a headline... not sure why.

So, it makes sense that since these images/ad block enhancers increase CTR (which means that they increase the money you make) Google wants to help you make more money (because then they make more money). If Google's tests come out positive we might see images like this on most AdSense units in a few months.

While researching this I noticed that Google is recording the referring URL, your screen resolution, color depth, the actual height and width of the browser window among other things... I'm guessing they're using that to better serve ads and not just spying on us ;)

There is also a new feature: Site Diagnostics to see if your website is blocking the Google crawler from checking out any your pages. If you're getting a lot of PSAs or irrelevant ads you should definitely check that.
