V7ndotcom Elursrebmem

Have you seen 'V7ndotcom Elursrebmem' here and there on the internet? Maybe you're even wondering what "V7ndotcom Elursrebmem" means? If we disect it we get "V7ndotcom" which stands for v7n.com which is a web development community and "Elursrebmem" which if you read it backwards says "members rule" -- So, "V7ndotcom Elursrebmem" means "v7n.com members rule" ;)

The reason you might have seen "V7ndotcom Elursrebmem" around the internet is that this is the keyphrase used in one of the most popular Search Engine Optimization (SEO) contests running right now.

According to the v7ndotcom elursrebmem competition rules:

In order to win the first prize, you must place first in Google (organic rankings) for the search term on May 15, 2006, noon, Pacific standard time.

The contest began on January 14, 2006 but the deadline is less than 3 weeks away. Right now, if you Google V7ndotcom Elursrebmem you get 6,540,000 results! That's a lot of contestants, but then again there are some nice prizes.

First prize is a total of $4,000 + iPod - and of course a great recognition as the "ultimate SEO expert". Second prize is $500 from v7n and third through fifth place prizes are $100 each from v7n.

Right now the Top 5 in Google for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem are:

  1. www.jimwestergren.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/

  2. www.v7ndotcomelursrebmem.com/

  3. www.v7ndotcomelursrebmem.net/

  4. www.watching-paint-dry.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/

  5. www.web-marketing.pl/

I think this is a pretty cool contest and it's very interesting to see what people do to try to rank #1 for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem. People of course try to get as many links to their page with the anchor text V7ndotcom Elursrebmem - some even say that they will donate the prize money to charity to get more people to link to them. Many people also update their page frequently - have some sort of a blog system set up to keep the page fresh and get the GoogleBot to visit frequently.

Yeah, it's exciting, I might even try to win a SEO competition like that sometime in the future - but I would make sure I would have time to create a "battle plan" and follow it.

Well, enough about V7ndotcom Elursrebmem... it'll be interesting to see if there will be any major changes at the top the last few days.

Update (May 4, 2006): Just for fun I used SEO Elite to check if this blog post was ranked in the Top 100 on Google for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem and it looks like I'm number 72 right now :) I think this is pretty cool considering that I haven't been running a heavy link building campaign (and doing other SEO tricks) for 4 months like many of the other sites in the Top 100. I just created this page 10 days ago and it's already ranking pretty high considering that there are 4.68 MILLION other pages trying to rank high for "V7ndotcom Elursrebmem".

One of the things that I belive is the reason for me "braking" into the Top 100 list is the fact that this page is fresh - and Google likes fresh content - it's logical to think that often fresh content is more relevant than older content that hasn't been updated. Well, I also used a few SEO techniques that I explain in full detail in my upcoming book: Residual Website Traffic ;)

Update (May 9, 2006): It's now less than a week left of this competition and now SEO Elite says I'm #65 :D

Update (May 13, 2006): It's now 2 days left of the competition and I'm now #58. There have been some changes in the Top 5. These are the first 5 websites when you search on Google for V7ndotcom Elursrebmem:

  1. www.v7ndotcomelursrebmem.com
  2. www.marcuswestberg.com/v7ndotcom-elursrebmem/
  3. www.maxlinks.org/internet/seo_competitions/v7ndotcom_elursrebmem/
  4. www.thetransformers.net
  5. v7ndotcom-elursrebmem.brutalwoods.com

It's interesting to see that www.jimwestergren.com, www.watching-paint-dry.com and www.web-marketing.pl are not even in the Top 100 anymore. Perhaps they did some SEO stuff that Google didn't like? The trick is that everything must be natural (or at least look natural to Google) - for example, your link building can't be seen as artificial (only to increase the site's PageRank), forced, etc.
